Careers, kids a house and…responsible?

July 12th, 2012 by Agent Kevin Miller

Kevin “So I assume you had some savings before you ditched your jobs and home and possessions and hit the road for an adventure?”

Jody “Well, not really. I guess that would have been more responsible.”

Kevin “Hmmm. Maybe not. Depends on your values, eh?”

That’s an excerpt from the show. Steve is a Doctor, Jody is a Teacher. One kid. Two miscarriages. Cancer. Big house. Responsibilities and commitments. Now all they own is in their truck and trailer and a few things in storage and they are on the road. They stopped off here in Woodland Park, CO, staying at Justin & Kristine Lukasavige’s vacant home (they’re off on an adventure too. Again.).

This isn’t ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’. These folks aren’t footloose and fancy-free. Hey, I just got home from 30 days on the road with my family. It was hard. Rewarding, but hard. It wasn’t about having fun and going to tourist attractions. It was about experiencing life. Seeking truth. Serving people.

Steve & Jody  are all of us. Well, they were. Now, they are of a rare breed who said NO to the norm and the trappings. Hear how they did it. Hear why they did it. Maybe in their story you can grasp some seeds to help YOU…do it.

Excited to hear the new show! This lifestyle seems so enticing yet scary. Hoping to pick up some great tips on how to break free during the show.

Thanks for listening, Joe. It’s not actually scary for us because we have safety nets in place (I like security.) and it’s temporary. Those things are key for us. It’s kind of like an extended vacation or a sabbatical. For us, we had to structure our adventure in a way that was secure enough to allow us to pursue it while still being out of the box enough for our to consider it epic :)

        Jody,

Really appreciated listening to y’all’s story. Connected with several things you have gone through, unfortunately all too recently. Changes your perspective, for sure. It is interesting how God uses different things in our lives to propel us in the direction that he wants us to go.

Tony, perspective is huge. I like the part in Hamlet where it says, “there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking
makes it so.” Of course some of the things Steve and I have experienced, and you as well, haven’t been good in and of themselves, but good was able to happen as a result. Thanks for listening and connecting. We’re honored that you shared 50 minutes of your day listening to our story.

Absolutely Tony. The key is hearing and feeling the faith in that direction, eh?!

What if there weren’t “safety nets” in place? Do you think you would have still made to leap? I’m not talking blind leaping off a cliff believing you’d grow wings. I AM talkin about stepping out in faith full of purpose filled risk!

        Thoroughly enjoyed hearing your story!!

I’ve never had much of any tangible safety nets Carolyne. For me, it works better that way, as I have no option but to see it through.

It’s scary for anyone to do anything but…continue doing what they are. Though if what we’re doing every day is not headed in the direction of our heart and convictions…to me that seems the scariest of all.
