People don’t care how much you know till they know…YOU

You’ve probably heard the quote that “People don’t care how much you know till they know how much you care.” It’s truth.

However in today’s world and marketplace, people want another step first.  They want to know WHO you are. And if they can’t readily find out who you are, they’ll rarely be patient enough to even listen to you long enough to know you care. They’ll click away and go listen to someone else who invites them in to their personal life so they can KNOW them.

  • An ‘About‘ page on a website where you talk about yourself is important…but not enough.
  • The ‘Testimonies‘ on a website are really important…but not enough.

What is enough? Facebook and Twitter are my personal favorites (I’d be honored to connect with you and we can get to know each other):

If used correctly, social media puts a person in a glass house where they can be fully known by all. If someone feels that their personal life should be kept private…fine. I respect that. But I probably won’t listen to them, and more and more of the populace won’t either. There are too many other incredible messengers out there who invite us into their personal lives so we can fully know and trust them.

And not only can you get to know a person, but you can interact with them and they can get to know YOU.

Now, I’m not talking the normal 90% of junk on Facebook and Twitter where people share meaningless updates, how they feel in a particular moment and a picture that’s not related to their life. AND…I’m not talking about the pure narcissist who mistakes this concept to talk ONLY about themselves and what they do and who they are and blah, blah, blah…

I’m talking sharing your life like you would with a friend, and you’re not pushing to sell yourself to your friends. Share a conviction. Share a passion. Share a success. Share who influences you and toot their horn. Share the blessings of your life such as family and gratefulness and events and hobbies.

AND…AND…pay attention to others. Interact with others on THEIR updates. Encourage others, support others. Show that you really DO care about others.

No longer do you need to hear a speaker, presenter, author, expert or authority and wonder what they are REALLY like and WHO they really are.  I’ve always felt that to know the measure of a man, let me meet his wife and/or kids. Using social media, I can now do just that. And again…if I can’t, chances are I’ll pass on by…

If there’s ANYONE claiming to know ANYTHING…before I waste a second, I’m merely going to check them out and see WHO they are. Do they have any credibility? Does it look like anyone else is really listening to them? Do I line up with their values and beliefs? Do they seem genuine and authentic and real? Or are they just trying to get my money…

Basically, do I like them? Do I trust them? Are they truly helping others…others that testify to them?

Today I can know that in a heartbeat through Facebook and Twitter.

On that note, will you connect with me and we’ll get to know each other:
